How to deploy a Bolt.new app to your own host
Export a Bolt.new project, find out whether it is static or needs a server, and deploy it with a shareable link and secrets kept out of the code.
Debraj
Many Bolt projects are front-end builds that become static files. If yours has a server folder or server actions, it needs a host that runs code.
First, which kind is it?
- A front-end only project (Vite and React) builds to static files.
- A project with a server directory, API routes or server actions needs a running server.
- If it writes data, check where: the app’s own disk is not permanent.
Steps
- Download the project or push it to a GitHub repository.
- Upload the folder, a .zip or a GitHub repo, or ask your assistant to deploy it over MCP. Cohostly shows draft settings first, and nothing goes live until you confirm.
- Confirm the build command (usually npm ci && npm run build) and the start command.
- Add keys as secrets and share the link.
Check before sharing
- Hard-coded localhost addresses.
- Missing environment variables.
- CORS settings on any API it calls.
Questions
Does Bolt host the app for me?
It can publish projects, but many people export and deploy elsewhere for their own domain, sharing and approvals.
Static or server?
If the build produces only HTML, CSS and JavaScript, static. If there is server code, it needs a running host.
Can I keep it private?
Yes, share by email with named people.
