How to turn a Google Sheet into a web app with AI
Ask an AI assistant to build a small web app on top of a Google Sheet, then host it, share it and connect the sheet without sharing a password.
A spreadsheet is the world’s most common database. A small web app on top of it can add forms, filters and a link people can open.
Plan the app first
- What does one row mean?
- Who reads, who edits?
- Which columns must never be shown?
Ask for it
Build a small web app that reads rows from a Google Sheet and shows them in a searchable table, with a form that adds a row. Read the sheet ID from an environment variable and do not hard-code any credentials.
Connect the sheet safely
Use a connection, not a password. Choose read-only or read and write for the one sheet you need. The app calls the sheet through Cohostly and never sees your Google login.
Host and share
- Upload the folder, a .zip or a GitHub repo, or ask your assistant to deploy it over MCP. Cohostly shows draft settings first, and nothing goes live until you confirm.
- Share with the people who need it.
- Set updates to require your approval.
Questions
Is it safe to connect Google Sheets to an app?
Yes with a narrow permission such as read-only on one sheet. You can remove it at any time.
Can the app write back to the sheet?
Yes if you grant read and write.
Do I need Google Cloud setup?
Not with a Cohostly connection; you approve access in a standard Google sign-in window.
